Not a FUN TOPIC to address but it is necessary!!! When I started my journey it was to lose 10 lbs and get in shape before hitting the big 5-0!!!!! I'd like to discuss the importance of staying active as we get older. I was 48 when I noticed my body had changed in ways I had never experienced before. I was desperate!!! Here I am five years later (age 53) and my perception is a WHOLE new reality!!! We all know that as we age, our bodies don't function quite the same way they used to. For instance, our muscles, bones and joints are more prone to injury and require a bit more care to prevent those injuries from occurring. That's why it is so important to keep moving and stretching regularly. I'm sure many of you have heard of cases of people my age who have had to deal with serious pain in their hips, knees, feet, shoulders and other areas due to not taking enough preventative measures. That's why I'm here to say that staying active and stretching regularly can, and will, help you avoid this kind of pain. Also, staying active doesn't necessarily mean you have to be a gym rat or a professional athlete. You can do something as simple as taking a walk in the park, learning a dance routine or signing up for a recreational sports team. Any type of physical activity can help keep your bones, muscles and joints strong. In addition to helping keep your bones, muscles and joints in good shape, regular exercise can also improve your mood and help reduce stress. It can also reduce your risk of certain diseases like heart disease, stroke and diabetes. So there's really no excuse not to move. Remember, age should not be an obstacle when it comes to staying active and keeping yourself healthy. All too often we think that when we get older, physical activity is no longer an option. But that's simply not true. So do your best to stay active every day and keep moving! Trust me, your body will thank you for it in the long run. “If you want something to change. Do something different.”
