“You’re not losing weight because you’re not eating enough...”
-
Aren’t you supposed to eat less to lose weight??
-
While yes, to lose weight you need to be in a calorie deficit, your body still requires an adequate amount of food to perform it’s functions properly.
-
So what happens when you under eat?
-
After so long, your body will adapt to the low calorie intake. This doesn’t mean it holds on to everything you eat and stores it as fat... Your body simply realizes that it’s only going to get a certain amount of food, so it needs to become more efficient. In doing so, it might stop certain functions it needs to do. Things like digestion, giving you energy, causing you to be more injury prone, etc. It won’t be efficient in burning fat or building muscle.
-
So what does this mean?
-
Simply put, your body needs food for fuel. It’s like a car. It can’t run without gas.
