Why I Almost Quit Being a Nutritionist
Let me be honest: I almost quit. Not because I didn't love nutrition, not because I didn’t believe in its power, but because of the frustration that comes when you care more about someone’s health than they do.
You see, I got into this field because I know food is medicine. I’ve seen it. I’ve lived it. But when the world around you is screaming for quick fixes, magic pills, and prescription after prescription, it gets lonely standing in the truth that real change takes work.
10 Frustrations That Nearly Broke Me:
The belief that Big Pharma always knows best. People trust a pill over whole food, even when the side effects are longer than the benefits.
The "just tell me what to take" mindset. Nutrition isn’t about one-size-fits-all supplements. It’s about understanding YOUR body.
Ultra-processed foods treated like a food group. I watch people ignore their gut health and wonder why they feel like garbage.
Resistance to behavior change. It’s not just what you eat. It’s how you think about food.
People want results, but not responsibility. Nutrition is not a magic wand; it’s a relationship.
Masking symptoms with medications. Instead of healing, many are taught to suppress.
"It runs in my family" used as an excuse. Epigenetics says otherwise.
Nutrition is rarely respected in traditional medical training. Most doctors receive fewer than 25 hours of nutrition education during med school.
The supplement overload. Everyone wants the magic pill instead of cleaning up their lifestyle.
Constantly defending real food. As if an avocado has to be proven against a low-fat, artificially sweetened yogurt cup.
Why Isn’t Nutrition Taught in Depth?
Most MDs aren’t trained in nutrition because the system isn’t designed to heal through food. It’s designed to manage disease. The real root causes get buried under symptom suppression. There is no profit in kale and lifestyle change, but there is in a recurring prescription model. That’s the hard truth.
But Then I Remembered Why I Started.
For every person who refuses to listen, there’s one who does.
And when they do?
It’s magic.
They reclaim their energy.
Their labs improve.
Their mind clears.
Their relationship with their body shifts.
The Science is Clear: Food IS Medicine
Here are just a few of the powerful studies and organizations supporting the role of nutrition in healing:
Harvard School of Public Health: Diets rich in whole foods reduce the risk of chronic disease.
The Lancet (2019 Global Burden of Disease Study): Poor diet is responsible for more deaths than any other risk factor globally.
National Institutes of Health (NIH): Anti-inflammatory diets shown to support cardiovascular and metabolic health.
Blue Zones Research: Diet and lifestyle directly contribute to longevity and lower disease incidence.
And Here's the Book That Started It All
I poured my personal study and passion into a resource that continues to change lives: "The 7-Day Sugar Detox: Sugar Is the Devil."
This is more than a guide—it’s a reset, a wake-up call, and a lifestyle shift. It’s the foundation of everything I teach.

Final Word:
I almost quit, but I didn’t. Because the truth still matters.
The body is wise. The food you eat speaks to it every single day. And I will always be the one who reminds you that your healing was never in a pill bottle.
You just have to listen.
And I’m still here to help you hear it.
With grit,
Heather Newman
