If you're tired of hearing the word "Ozempic" without actually knowing what it means... you're not alone.

In this week’s episode of the #GetUnstuckPodcast, we’re diving into the truth

about GLP-1s — what they are, how they actually work, and why they’ve gone from quiet diabetes meds to viral weight loss solutions almost overnight.

Because if you’ve felt overwhelmed by conflicting info, influencer claims, or judgment from both sides… you’re not crazy.

And you’re not alone.

Here’s what you need to know.

🧬 What are GLP-1s?

GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1 —

a natural hormone your body produces after you eat. It tells your brain you’re full, slows digestion, and helps regulate insulin.

GLP-1 medications are synthetic versions of that hormone. They’re technically called “GLP-1 receptor agonists.”

But no need to get sciencey — you probably know them by brand names like:

  • Ozempic

  • Wegovy

  • Mounjaro

  • Trulicity

  • Saxenda

  • Rybelsus (the pill form)

They were originally created to treat type 2 diabetes, but in 2021, Wegovy was FDA-approved specifically for weight loss — and that’s when they went mainstream.

How do they work?

GLP-1 meds work by:

  • Slowing down how fast your stomach empties

  • Making you feel full faster and longer

  • Reducing hunger and cravings

  • Lowering blood sugar levels

The result?

Many people lose 15–25% of their body weight over time — and some see improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol, and inflammation too.

But let’s talk about side effects…

Like any drug, they come with trade-offs:

  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation, bloating

  • Potential lean muscle loss if not eating enough protein or doing strength training

  • “Ozempic face” — facial fat loss that ages the skin

  • Gallbladder or thyroid concerns (mostly rare or still under study)

This isn’t a magic solution.

And if you stop taking it, the weight often returns unless your lifestyle has shifted.

The truth about hormone therapy

Here’s the part no one’s saying out loud:

These meds are hormone therapy.

So if you’re criticizing HRT or bioidentical hormone support — but taking GLP-1s — there’s a disconnect.

You’re using a lab-created hormone to help regulate your body.

And that’s not a bad thing.

But it is something that requires thought, structure, and responsibility.

Structure still matters

Whether you’re using GLP-1s or navigating your health naturally, one truth doesn’t change:

If you don’t build structure — you’ll default to burnout.

That’s why I created DARE TO SAY NO™ —

a 7-day boundary + structure reset for women who are done self-abandoning.

It’s not about what you’re taking.

It’s about what you’re tolerating.

And how you start showing up for yourself differently — with or without medication.

What we cover in Episode 263

  • When GLP-1s actually hit the market (hint: not 2021)

  • How they transitioned from diabetes treatment to weight loss

  • Why they’re so effective — and what they can’t fix

  • The biggest pros vs. cons based on clinical research

  • What long-term use actually looks like

  • Why this is not a shortcut, and what you must do to protect your muscle, mindset, and metabolism if you’re using one

Final Take

GLP-1 meds aren’t good or bad — they’re a tool.

If you’re using them or considering them, this episode will give you the clarity and structure to make informed decisions.

Not shame.

Not fluff.

Just real talk.
